The Wey & Arun Canal Trust is a volunteer group working to restore the 23-mile canal that runs from Shalford in Surrey to Pallingham in West Sussex. The aim is to bring the waterway back to life for recreation use and to increase wildlife diversity, creating a green corridor for boaters, paddlers, walkers and horse riders.
The longest restored section is at Loxwood, where the Trust runs weekend public boat trips and special cruises. Private bookings are also available.
Volunteering with the Wey Arun Canal Trust offers the chance to learn new skills, keep fit and meet new people, with groups meeting nearly every day of the week. Volunteers attend working parties carrying out tasks ranging from towpath tidying to hedge-laying, construction to boat maintenance, as well as many back office tasks.
