SMART Cranleigh is a community network that supports and promotes local initiatives in and around Cranleigh. We are helping bring together a wide range of local groups and organisations to tackle loneliness and isolation, raise awareness of these issues and find new ways to help people stay connected.
We are creating a high street community space where people can drop in, get advice and get involved. We are based at Oliver House, next door to Cromwell’s.
We are open between 10-1pm Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays between May –October
FACTS: Did you know?
The proportion of pensioners living alone is higher in Cranleigh than the rest of Surrey.
1 in 5 pensioners don’t have access to a car.
There are a higher than average proportion of carers living in Cranleigh.
We all want to live well in a community and enjoy a good quality of life. There is a rich variety of things our community already provides and we want to make sure people know how to access these.
There are many factors that can compromise our ability to join in with community activities – caring responsibilities, financial difficulties, lack of transport, long working hours, health problems, etc.
SMART Cranleigh is working to address these problems.
For example ‘Memory Lane’ a weekly social group for people with dementia and their carers held at Cranleigh Arts Centre.
People need easier ways to access local information. SMART Cranleigh is facilitating this through developing an online Community Calendar and Directory and providing volunteer Community Connectors based in Oliver House. Their role is to help signpost people to clubs, social activities and support.
